மினி ரிவ்யூ -100 days of Love துல்கர், நித்யாமேனன், இருவரையும் போஸ்டரில் பார்த்த மாத்திரத்தில் அட பார்க்கலாமே என்று முடிவெடுத்தேன். 500 days of summer  போல 100 நாள் கதை. ஆனால் அதை ஜிக்சாக்காக சொல்லாமல் ரிவர்ஸில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள். துல்கர் நித்யாவை ஒரு மழை தருணத்தில் பார்த்த மாத்திரத்தில் காதல் கொள்ள, அவர் மிஸ் செய்த பழைய பிலிம் கேமராவில் உள்ள பிலிமை டெவலப் செய்து அவரை தேடுகிறார். நித்யாவை கண்ட மாத்திரத்தில் தெரிகிறது பழைய பள்ளி தோழியென. பின்பு காதல் சொல்லலாம் என்றால் வில்லனாய் வேறொஉ உயர் ரக காதலன். அவனுடனான நிச்சயதார்த்தம். என டெம்ப்ளேட் மின்னலே கதையாய் போகிறது. நித்யா மேனனை தேடுகிறேன் பேர்விழி என அமைத்திருக்கும் திரைகக்தை ஆமை வேகம். அதிலும் பின்னணியிசை எரிச்சல். பின் பாதியில் வரும் ஒரிரு காட்சிகளும், க்ளைமேக்ஸ் நெருக்கத்தில் வரும் எமோஷன் காட்சிகள் சேவிங் கிரேஸ். ஐரோப்பிய படங்களைப் பார்த்து அங்கிருந்து சுட்ட காட்சிகளாய் இருந்தாலும் காதல் படம் என்று வரும் போ குட்டியாய் ஒரிரு இடங்களில் வந்தாலும் புதிய இளைஞர்கள் விரும்பத்தான் செய்கிறார்கள்.  படத்தில் ஒரு வசனம் வருகிறது ‘ ...

“ உன் கிட்ட கொஞ்சம் பேசணும் வீட்டுக்கு வர முடியுமா?” என்று போனில் கூப்பிட்டது அனிதா அப்பா. அந்த முடியுமாவில் ஆப்ளிகேஷனில்லை வா என்ற கட்டளை தொனி லேசாய் கிலியை ஏற்படுத்தியது. இதற்கு முன்னால் அனிதாவின் நண்பனாய் நிறைய முறை  அவரிடம் பேசியிருக்கிறேன். அனிதாவுடனான காதலுக்கு, பின்பான அழைப்பிது.

சந்தோஷத்தை, கொண்டாட்டத்தை தரக்கூடிய படங்களே அதிகம் கோலோச்சும் தெலுங்கு சினிமாவிலிருந்து ஒரு அதிசய படம். எல்லா நேரங்களிலும் ஒரு சினிமா நமக்குள் தாக்கத்தை கொடுப்பதில்லை. கொண்ட்டாட்டமோ, அல்லது துக்கமோ படம் பார்த்துவிட்டு வந்த விநாடிகளில் ட்ராபிக் கூட்டத்தில் கரைந்து போயிவிடக்கூடிய அளவே இருக்கும். ஆனால் மிகச் சில படங்களே வீட்டிற்கு வந்தும் நம்மை அலைக்கழித்துக் கொண்டேயிருக்கும். அது போன்ற படம் தான் இந்த எவுடா சுப்ரமணியம். 

நிகில் சித்தார்த் ஹேப்பி டேஸ் படத்தின் மூலமாய் அறியப்பட்டவர். மெல்ல முன்னேறி ஒரிரண்டு படங்களில் ஹீரோவாக தலை காட்டினாலும், பெரிதாய் சொல்லிக் கொள்ளும்படியான படம் அமையாமல் இருந்தவருக்கு சுவாமி ரா.. ரா படம் ஒரு ப்ரேக்கை கொடுத்தது. பின்பு இதோ இந்த கார்த்திகேயா.. தற்போதைய ஹாட்ரிக் ஹிட் சூர்யாv/s சூர்யா. இப்படம் தமிழில் மொழி மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டு ஆந்திராவில் ரிலீஸான போதே தமிழில் ரிலீஸ் செய்ய தயாராய் இருந்தார்கள்.  படத்தை பார்த்துவிட்டு ஆர்.பி.சவுத்ரி ரீமேக் செய்ய விருப்பப்பட்டு வாங்கி வைத்துவிட்டதாய் சொன்னார்கள்.  சுப்ரமணியபுரம் எனும் ஊரில் உள்ள சுப்ரமணிய சுவாமி கோயிலில், ஏதோ ஒரு அமானுஷ்ய சக்தி இருப்பதாகவும், அதனால் அக்கோயிலை மூடி வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். அக்கோயிலைப் பற்றி விசாரிப்பவர்கள் பாம்பு கடித்து இறக்கிறார்கள். மெடிக்கல் படிக்கும் ஹீரோ தன் சகாக்களுடன் ஊருக்கு மெடிக்கல் கேம்புக்கு வர, விஷயம் தெரிந்து தன் ஆர்வக்குட்டி வேலையை காட்ட, பாம்பு அவரை அழிக்க வருகிறது. பாம்பை பிடித்து ரெப்டைல் டிபார்ட்மெண்டில் விசாரிக்க, கிடைக்கும் விஷயம் அமானுஷ்யத்திலிருந்து திரில்லராய் மாறி முடிகிற...

Distributor / Theater collection calculation and accounting             No matter how the agreement and deals are put in order, accounting of collection lies on statistics of no of tickets in the theater, show-wise price of tickets, etc. To track, collect, record and verify this data, the distributor would send an agent from his side to every theater along with the print. This agent is called ‘Representative’ of the distributor. Representatives are paid salary of Rs.100.00 per day. He also stays in the theater till the movie run ends there. Some big names in distribution arrange the stay for them at nearby lodges too.

Rental Process               As we have discussed already, In Chennai and other big cities, the theaters operate on rental basis. It does not matter whether it is a single screen or multiplex, the theaters operate on rental basis. The rent differs from one theater to another based on factors like locality, capacity and facilities. In Chennai, a moderate theater with AC and DTS can fetch around a lakh rupees as weekly rent. Rent can be split and charged (rent for screening the noon show only). Theaters like Devi have charged INR 2.5 Lakhs as weekly rent. We have paid this amount for ‘Uyirile Kalandhadhu’, which we released in Devibala. The quirky thing to notice in this trade is, the theater owners would deduct the rent for second week when they hand over the first week collection to the distributors. Screening of a Movie (Exhibition)                                                                Consider this scenario. The producer has completed the film production, declared the release date and also have sold the movie area-wise. There is still work to do for the producer. They include preparing and delivering photo cards for the screening theaters, posters printing, arranging press shows for the reporters and print advertisement among many others. To take a film to the masses and let the public be aware of the movie, Television advertisement and interviews have to be arranged which attract a lot of expense. Films, which are not marketed this way, find it hard to be recognized by the public. Thus in present times, it is imperative to spend a fortune for advertisement.

பேலியோ டயட் பாலோ செய்ய ஆரம்பித்ததிலிருந்து சாப்பாட்டுக்கடை பக்கம் அதிகம் செல்வதில்லை. அதையும் மீறி சில அன்பு உள்ளங்கள் என்னை தீண்டி, உசுப்பேத்தி வாரத்தில் ஒரு நாள் எடுக்கும் சீட்டிங் டயட்டை ரெண்டு நாளாக்கி விட துடித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். அப்படி தூண்டிய நண்பர் தான் எழில். இந்த சாப்பாட்டுக்கடையைப் பற்றி ஒரு பத்து நிமிஷம் அஹா ஓஹோவென சொல்லி, நான் இன்னும் சாப்பிடலை. ஒரு நாள் போகணும் என்றார். சாப்பாட்டுக்கடை ஓனரான என்னிடம் இப்படி சொன்னவுடன் “அட நாம அவுட்டேட் ஆயிட்டா அப்புறம் தமிழ் சாப்பாட்டுச் சமூகத்தை யார் காப்பாத்துறது?’ என்ற பெரும் பொறுப்பு என்னை விடாமல் துரத்த, ரெசிடென்ஸிக்கு பக்கத்தில் உள்ள பழைய நட்ஸ் அண்ட் ஸ்பைஸ் கடையின் மூன்றாவது தளத்தில் அமைந்திருக்கும் அப்சல்யூட் பார்பிக்யூ வில் ஆஜரானேன். 

Film distribution Immediately after the film production is complete, the producer or the production house would be arranging for sales shows for the film. These sales shows are called previews . All-important key distributors would be invited for this preview. The people who watch the movie include distributors and people who are middlemen called mediators. This group determines and fixes the price of the movie based on the cast of the film, technicians’ quality and the previous movies’ success rate of the hero or the director. And to tell you the fact, most of the times, these decisions have gone only wrong!

பயணம் நேற்று மாலை நண்பர் முரளி சிங்கப்பூரிலிருந்து வந்திருந்தார். அவரை பார்ப்பதற்காக ஓலாவில் ஆட்டோ புக் செய்தேன். முதலில் வந்த ட்ரைவர் போன் செய்து தான் ஆலந்தூரில்  இருப்பதாகவும், உடனே வர முடியாது என்றார். பின்பு மீண்டும் ஆட்டோவே ட்ரை செய்த அடுத்த ஐந்து நிமிடத்தில் ஆட்டோ ஆஜர். மேற்கு சைதாப்பேட்டையிலிருந்து அம்பாமால் வரைக்குமான கட்டணம் 104 ரூபாய் சில்லறை. +10 ரூபாய். மீண்டும் இரவு பத்து மணிக்கு ஓலா ஆட்டோவே புக் செய்தேன். அம்பா மால் வாசலில் இருந்து மேற்கு சைதாப்பேட்டை. இம்முறை 110 ரூபாய் ஆனது +10 ரூபாய். ஆனால் மிக அருமையான கஸ்டமர் சர்வீஸ். இன்று பேப்பரில் ஆட்டோ சங்க ஆட்கள் நேற்று போராட்டம் செய்தார்களாம். ஓலாவில் 10 ரூபாய் அதிகமாய் பணம் வாங்குகிறார்களாம். அது சட்டத்திற்கு விரோதமாம். பெட்ரோல் விலையை குறைக்க வேண்டுமாம். நேற்று இரவு அம்பா மாலில் ஆட்டோ ஏறுவதற்கு முன்னால் ஆட்டோவை லொக்கேட் செய்ய அவருக்கு கால் செய்து கொண்டிருந்த போது பக்கத்தில் இருந்த ஆட்டோக்காரர் “எங்க சார் போகணும்?’ என்று கேட்டார். இப்பவாச்சும் திருந்தியிருக்காங்களா?ன்னு பார்க்கிறதுக்காக பக்கத்தில இருக்கிற நுங்கம்பாக்கம்...

2.Business of Tamil films             The task is not complete for the producers with last day of shooting or the day when the movie’s editing is completed. It has to be traded. That is where a producer could recover the money he had invested in the making of the movie. As a matter of fact, the difficulties of making a movie are equal to that of trading it. The expenses incurred in the production would equate the expenses incurred by the distributors.

1.     Cinema Industry             Arguments are very common amidst Kollywood fans about the budget of their favorite stars’ movies. They claim sky high the budget and sales figures of the movies to the fans of their conceived opponent heroes. But they do all the boasting without knowing the basic facts like how the movie is sold, how a movie is distributed or even if the movie could collect back the huge amount of funds gone in the making. They don’t cost them anything. Just plain talks! Same time, it is also fact that some shoestring budget movies, which had costed the producer a few crores have surprised the whole K-town with tremendous success and amazing collection.

Preface   Every day, every week, we the public witness a slew of movie releases happening relentlessly in the realms we dwell upon.  In the case of TamilNadu, every week sees the release of at lease three local language (read Tamil) movies, a couple of other language or dubbed movies are releasing. At times, in a single month more than twenty local language movies flurry the cinemas and as fate works out, mostly they fail to leave an impression in the minds of public, bomb at box offices and finds asylum in Television channels to be telecast ‘first time in the TV universe’. செங்கல்பட்டில் ஒரு ராஜ்கிரண் எட்டு வருடங்களுக்கு முன்னர், தெரிந்த இசையமைப்பாளர் ஒருவர் கூப்பிட்டார். நண்பர் ஒருவர் படம் செய்யவிருப்பதாகவும், அப்படத்துக்கு நான் வசனம் எழுத வேண்டுமென, இயக்குநர் அழைப்பதாகச் சொல்ல, பரபரப்பாகக் கிளம்பினேன். எழுத்தாளர்களை மதிக்கும் இயக்குநர்களை எனக்குப் பிடிக்கும். கதை, திரைக்கதை, வசனம், எல்லாவற்றையும் ஒருவரே பார்ப்பது இம்சையான வேலை.

Bench Talkies No.1 ஆங்கிலத்தில், இந்தியில், ஏன் மலையாளத்தில் கூட குறும்படங்களின் தொகுப்பாய் திரைப்படங்கள் வந்திருக்கிறது. ஆனால் குறும்படம் இயக்கியவர்களை இயக்குனர்களாய் கொண்டாடும் தமிழகத்தில் இன்று வரை குறும்படங்களை தொகுப்பாய் அமைத்து படம் வெளியானதில்லை. ஏற்கனவே பாலசந்தர் அவர்கள் ஒரே படத்தில் இரண்டு கதையை கொடுத்திருந்தார். சமீபத்தில் எஸ்.ஏ.சி ஒரே படத்தில் ரெண்டு கதைகளை வைத்து படம் எடுத்திருந்தார். குறும்படங்கள் இயக்கி, தயாரித்து, அதன் மூலமாய் உடனடியாய் திரைப்படம் இயக்க வாய்ப்புக்காகத்தான் பல பேர் குறும்படம் எடுக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் குறும்படத்திற்கென்று தனி மார்கெட், அதன் மூலம் வருமானம் என்று ஒர் வழியுள்ளதை இன்னும் நிறைய பேர் கண்டறிய முயலவே இல்லை. இன்றளவில் ஏவிஎம்மிலோ, ஆர்.கே.வியிலோ குறும்படம் எடுத்துவிட்டு, யூ டியூப்பில் போடுவதை தவிர்த்து பத்து பைசா காசு பார்க்க முடியாமல் தொடர்ந்து கோடம்பாக்க கனவுடன் வளைய வருகிறவர்களுக்கு அதை பணமாக்க, குறும்படங்களை காசு கொடுத்து பார்க்கை வைக்க முயலுங்கள் என்று அடிக்கடி நான் பங்கேற்கும் மேடைகளில் சொல்லிக் கொண்டேயிருப்பேன்.  அதை கார்த்தி தன் வெற்றியின...
